CALL FOR TEXTS - AFFLUENT vol. 2

Theme: Performing Arts and Impostor Syndrome

Deadline for submissions: June 1st, 2023

Submit your texts by email to: audray@confluence-cv.ca

Confluence - CV is an organization that accompanies performing artists in their professional trajectory as well as in the reflection processes that may be related to it. AFFLUENT is a publication put forward by the organization and available online. Consult our first issue here: https://www.confluence-cv.ca/affluent

AFFLUENT wishes to be a space where it becomes possible to share the gaps, obstacles, achievements, apogees and analyses that we have observed as an organization dedicated to the service of artists.

The second issue of AFFLUENT will focus on the impostor syndrome among performing artists. A phenomenon that appears to be surprisingly widespread amongst them, the impostor syndrome manifests itself as "psychological pattern of fear and self-doubt. It interferes with people’s belief in their own accomplishments and burdens them with the persistent, internalized fear of being exposed as a fraud — despite evidence of their abilities." (1). While such doubt is sometimes evoked by artists in the public space, little attention is paid to its origin and effects. However, we observe that the impostor syndrome can complicate the experience of artistic practice. Confluence - CV intends to engage in a conversation around this topic, to explore new avenues of reflection and to examine the collective power in the face of this phenomenon.

As a recurrent conclusion segment to each issue, the "Taking the plunge” segment calls for a low tide and invites us to settle down. We are looking for the next new poetic proposal to fill this segment. Proposals submitted by artists and/or cultural workers will be given preference. Texts should be no longer than 300 words and consider the theme of the next volume.

The next text to be published in AFFLUENT will be selected by a carefully constituted reading committee. A fixed remuneration is attached to the editing and publishing process that will follow. The editing, proofreading and layout work will be done in collaboration between the project coordinator, the different linguistic resources involved and the selected author.

Submissions should be sent by email, by June 1st, 2023 and should include a short biographical note.
